Open samsung dex8/13/2023 ![]() My typical use is rideshare with some documentation apps running and receiving updates input. My biggest concern with this limitation is that I have not yet figured a way to increase this limit, or how to prioritize apps with unsaved data so they don't reload when brought back into focus. Others actaully displayed disconnect/reconnect messages. On the games, I could briefly see various errors popup indicating they froze. Others would reload (unsaved data was lost). Either way, not a good test subject.Īs apps went inactive, the information displayed "froze", downloads stopped, new information did not populate, on the aviation apps, airspace alerts did not happen.Īs I tapped through the apps, making them one of the 5 active apps, some would smoothly unfreeze, update and continue. ![]() Has been properly coded to work correctly withing the Google multi-window API. The app is somehow (cheating) keeping itself in the ACTIVE 5 circle, or 2. I also specifically excluded Google Maps, because when I was playing with it earlier today, it never stopped/froze despite my efforts to make 5 other apps active. But there were other indicators that all 10 were not running. I also tested mostly with GPS/Map type apps to easier detect when the apps went inactive and "froze" into a mere screenshot. I tested with 10 because I need the individual windows to be large enough to be viewable. Other device with similiar experice is my Galaxy Fold, Android 10, OneUI2.1, Dex with Goodlock via DexPad and DexCable. Test device was my Sasung Tab S4 with Android 10, OneIU 2.1, Dex with Goodlock installed. ![]() (and I've observed the same on my Samsung Fold as well). ![]() I just ran around and retested this using my Galaxy Tab S4 with Dex displayed on the screen. I believe this was with Android Marshmellow. I am a heavy multi-tasking android user, and have been coping with the 5 active app issue since Google implemented their multi-window feature (and samsung ceeded their multi-window function). I believe what you are actually experiencing is 5 active apps +15 "screenshots" of inactive yet displayed apps. As such I continue to be stuck building wide over high by having additonal devices on hand to handle all of my needed apps while staying under the ACTIVE 5 limit on each device. Even an incoming phone call will push me over this limit and I risk loosing my unsaved Memento or Google Form data. But I continue to this day to be vary careful to not run more than 5 apps. Dex was awesome because it remembers your window size / position (google multi-window pop-up's do not!). Along with most of the GPS/Map type apps getting the proper ONACTIVE event hooks properly coded and displaying updates while in the background. With the Note 8 and Dex, and the Goodlock app was a huge help. I used a brute force tactic of having an app that auto-tapped the panels to give each app some "active" time and the illusion that all the apps were presenting current (less than 5 second old) information. Very problematic with the google forms and such, but also I could see when a GPS app "freeze" because it was no longer considered one of the 5 active. I also messed with some root level tools and roms to get the old style samsung mulit-window support (google spit-screen was/is 2, samsungs was 4), but the 5 active app limit remained. This was most notable with memeno, LectureNotes and my Google forms as when they reloaded, I would loose all of my unsaved data. What this meant is while I could have my 7-9 apps open, as I changed to them they would reload opposed to resuming. phones with less than 2gb would only do a max of 3 in my experience). With Google's iteration of multi-window, the max active was set to 5 (This was also RAM dependant. Google took over multi-window and samsung stopped. My only issue with this was some minor, yet noticable lag, but everything did multtask.Īround Marshmellow. I also had a couple idle-clicker games running as well. On the Galaxy Note 12.2 my typical configuration was a 4 way split displaying the Uber, Lyft, Veyo and Waze apps, with Memento, LectureNotes, and a Chrome running 2 google forms that I used to track my rides in a pop-up window. I know this because I used to use the Galaxy Note 12.2 tablet for my rideshare business, and all the apps would continue to remain active so long as they were open. I love to build high over wide, but Andoid itself imposed the 5 app limit sometime around Marshmellow. Apparently you can have up to 20 displayed (Max I tired was 10), but only 5 of those will actually continue to run/multitask and I have not found any way to prioritize which apps must remain active.įor me. I was just commenting on this very issue in another thread.
